Weapon cleaning and care with VFG felt

Nearly all the advantages of the various cleaning and care systems can be provided by felt: this material is absorptive, has a complex microstructure with a large surface, is rough enough to remove dirt particles, yet at the same time so soft that it does not damage the barrel.

These positive properties of the material are further enhanced by the constant size of the cleaning and care felts which are designed for the various barrel calibres. VGF felts are made minimally larger than the calibre for which they are intended. This means that the VGF felt is pressed into the rifling grooves so firmly as to absorb all the soiling, but at the same ensuring that it moves easily.

Whatever the type of weapon, VFG felts work in such a way that the particles of dirt or rust are not simply distributed within the weapon but are directly transported out of the barrel or cylinder.

There are barrel cleaners (or chamber cleaners for revolvers) made of woollen felt and superintensive cleaners of woollen felt with embedded brass fibres. Woollen felt cleaners are used for removing light soiling and for the preservation of gun barrels. Superintensive cleaners are designed for cleaning heavy soiling and rust.

The superintensive cleaners combine the advantages of brass brushes, steel wool and VFG woollen felt: they are highly abrasive and elastic = efficient removal of dirt from the grooves and lands in the barrel through all-over cleaning elements which adapt elastically to the shape and course of the bore. This means that the use of cleaning brushes, steel wool or similarly heavily abrasive cleaning tools is no longer necessary. Therefore, there is no risk of damaging or scoring the barrel through backward and forward movement or of causing unwanted scars in the area of the muzzle.

The superintensive cleaners consist of woollen felt and brass fibres which are firmly anchored within the felt (VFG Patent P 4109692.4.09). Unlike the case with brushes, the position of the brass fibres does not change as the superintensive cleaner is moved backwards and forwards (i.e. no windscreen wiper effect!). The design of the superintensive cleaners also allows them to be used for the dry cleaning of chrome-plated or other rust-resistant barrels.

Barrel cleaners and superintensive cleaners are available for all standard calibre rifles, shotguns and handguns; they are made to size and are highly absorbent for cleaning agents.

Other items within the VFG weapon cleaning and care range include cleaning rods and adapters. The cleaning rods of stainless steel equipped with ball-bearing mounted handle allow the cleaning and care felts to precisely follow the twist of the rifling in the barrel. The design of the adapters means that the cleaning rods can be used for any calibre, and for several felt elements to be positioned and removed at the same time.

Depending on the type of weapon, the various weapon cleaning and care components can be individually combined and used according to a specific process. Professional cleaning and care - irrespective of the type of weapon - is additionally supported by a combination tool programme. Through the special properties of these felt tools, they can also be used for surface protection of the weapon, with simplified handling. The same naturally also applies to the VFG pocket cleaning kit specifically developed for mobile use.
